Natural & Herbal Remedies
There are many preventative methods you can take to help protect yourself from the allergens that cause Hay Fever. There are also several natural cures for hay fever, but everyone’s system is different so you should keep an open mind and find what works best for you.
Everyone has different reactions and is allergic to different substances. What are some natural solutions to Hay Fever (also known as Allergic Rhinitis)?
Vaseline rubbed inside the nostrils will cause pollens and irritants to get caught in your nostrils instead of traveling up into your sinuses where they will inflame and irritate.
Try to stop smoking (not only is smoking bad for your health in general, but it is also said to be linked to triggering allergies).
Use unscented cleaning supplies and soaps. Instead of having air fresheners, try using an air filter system to get rid of bad smells. Using your air conditioner in your house and in your car will help prevent pollen from entering your environment. Try to conduct outdoor activities during times when pollen levels aren’t so high. There are more pollens during the morning and the evening, so plan your outdoor activities during mid-day.
Chamomile
Add fresh, dried or oil into a bowl of boiling water and inhale the fumes from the water.
To Drink: Boil up some freshly squeezed grapefruit (pulp included) and add some honey. Drink a small glass of this 2 – 3 times a day.
It has also been suggested that if you are using honey for medicinal purposes related to allergies, it is best to use a local honey which contains natural defenses against local allergy triggers.
Diet
You should eat a clean, healthy, and balanced diet to keep your system strong. Include Vitamin C in your diet. There are many things that you may not know that worsen your symptoms. Some of these are house plants, pets, smoke, air fresheners, dust, and cleaning supplies. If you have a blooming house plant, it may be worsening your symptoms. Dust and vacuum every day. Have one that has an allergen filter on it. Read hay fever and diet.
Homeopathic Solution
Another popular option that are natural are the homeopathic remedies. In the 1700s, homeopathy was discovered by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. He thought that conventional medicine was invasive and was full of side effects. He figured out that by diluting this chemical that gave you the symptoms of the illness itself, it would be a lot less harsh and did its work by building the body’s defenses against the illness. BioAllers, a popular brand of homeopathic allergy remedies said, “Homeopathic formulations work with the body’s natural response system to strengthen its ability to heal itself. As natural homeopathic formulations, there are no side effects or contra-indications with other medications, and will not make you drowsy. Homeopathic Hay Fever Treatments
Two famous brands that create homeopathic solutions for hay fever are BioAllers, found at www.bioallers.com, and Similasan, found at www.similasanusa.com
Pets
If you have a pet, beware of flea soaps and powders that have an ingredient called pyrethrums. Pyrethrums are from chrysanthemums and can worsen your allergies. See also, Hypoallergenic Pets (cats and dogs) and Hay Fever Tips.
The Neti Pot
The neti pot is a famous solution to clear your nasal passages and helps greatly with hay fever sufferers. The process is called Nasal Irrigation. It’s been proven to remove 80-90% of irritants, shrink swollen membranes, thin out thick, sticky secretions and expel them. You’ll use less medication and get sick less often.
Neti pot is actually very simple to use. The very first time you tried it, will seem a little weird. The salt mixed into the water helps to clear the infectious agents and allergens out of your nose. It’s sort of similar to gargling with salt water. If you wanted to make the solution stronger, you could also use a zinc solution which is available in the market. To find out more about the neti pot technique you can do a search on YouTube.com.
